Book Design + Series Poster
In contemporary China, the issue of feminism seems to be solved, but under the peaceful surface is a huge problem. The post-socialist state, market forces, and rekindled patriarchal values have culminated in a gendered marriage market that incentivizes hypergamy. By dismissing the hypergamous marriage market and focusing on women’s professional achievements, non-cooperative C-fem poses a dual threat to the patriarchal social order. The unsympathetic public often lumps women’s discontent and agitation together under the label of ‘feminism’ to contain them. More people should know how important and what the situation is, the deformed ideas of rural feminism need to be changed.

This book examines some of the typical problems with feminism in China, ranging from the start of Chinese feminism, China’s #MeToo movement, to gender stereotyping in pop culture.

People see themselves in a mirror, as well as in this book.

This book contains photographs from Chinese female photographer—Luo Yang, who explored a more nuanced view of modern Chinese femininity and depicts an emerging Chinese youth culture that defies imposed expectations and stereotypes.

The images included in this series charter a period of personal development, I’m using the overlap method to show all the girls have another side inside them.
